On August 14, 2009, the President of the United States came to Belgrade, Montana for a Town Hall meeting. This had never happened before.
It takes a lot to stage an event like that. The President brought some of it with him, including the Secret Service, Air Force One and three Marine helicopters.
But what was remarkable was the amount of support provided locally. An extraordinary concentration of state and local law enforcement assembled in a ten-mile radius around the Town Hall site at the Gallatin Field airport.
While it is only proper that Montana should provide security for a visiting President, the recent visit does illustrate the huge extent to which the federal government depends upon the states. In fact, Washington can do very little without them. We the People have a lot more power than we realize. If we want to, we CAN reclaim our Liberty!
Since at the national level, both major political parties ARE Big Government, we have to start at the grass roots. We must seek out and elect principled, Constitutionally-minded men and women to local and state government. If enough states join the growing movement to reclaim the people’s rightful power, we will win easily. Big Government may appear fearsome and almighty, but the only power it has is what it gets from us.
